ABSTRACT

The neoliberalisation of the welfare sector, social work and teaching professional practices have had significant impacts on the contemporary workplace, with organisational contexts characterised by technical rationality and managerialist practices. Within this context, social work and teacher education students who are educated to believe that their professions are committed to social justice, human rights and the liberation of people (i.e their professional selves) might be in a value conflict with their obligations to their organisation as an employee. This holds important implications for professional education.
