ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the book, outlining some of its journey – from the early discussions of the editors through to its publication. We locate events that mark the end of life in a context that intersects two complex fields – death studies and critical event studies. That intersection opens points of disruption that offer opportunities to widen and extend discussion around the event of death and its marking. In doing so it enables the facilitation of new conversations, new approaches, and raising new questions. Each chapter is introduced and a rationale for the curation of the book into four parts is developed.
