ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an introduction to the book Tourism and Foreign Direct Investment: Issues, Challenges and Prospects. It conceptualises and explains tourism-related FDI (TFDI) and gives an overview of the varied collection of chapters that make up the book. To demonstrate the current knowledge and to identify research gaps still in existence, it describes how the chapters in the book combine theory and case studies related to TFDI. It further explains the scope and organisation of the book by describing the focus of each chapter. It clarifies how each contributing author goes beyond destination-specific content and delivers analytical insights, theoretical advances, and concluding thoughts on further related research areas and needs. This introduction chapter concludes that the authors and editor anticipate that academics, students, and practitioners will find the book inspiring and useful, and that the content will stimulate further discussion and research around this important under-researched area of TFDI.
