ABSTRACT

The workplace hurtles toward the future at an accelerating rate of change, brought on by converging technologies and global disruptions, such as the 2020 global pandemic. Higher education grasps the implications of this acceleration yet brings reform to undergraduate education slowly. This places the onus on adapting to changing workplace expectations squarely on the individual. This chapter reviews the forces shaping the workplace moving forward and wrestles with providing learners with opportunities to succeed. The T-professional model provides a realistic and grounded structure for advancing human potential deeply imbued with learning through work. Yet, even with clarity on skill expectations, young adults still stumble during the early stages of their careers without further advocacy from post-secondary institutions to strengthen their T-development.
