ABSTRACT

Programs of work-integrated learning (WIL) continue to evolve and grow within institutions and across jurisdictions. A valuable resource to programs and their institutions is the networks of like-minded groups found in associations at the regional, national, and global levels. This chapter will focus on the importance of the national and global associations of cooperative and work-integrated education and WIL in the growth and development of quality work integrated education. Key characteristics are identified that can help assure that national and global level associations are designed to be effective and sustainable. The national associations referenced in this chapter include those from the following countries: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Sweden, Southern Africa, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The global association is the World Association for Cooperative and Work-Integrated Education.
