ABSTRACT

In a colony whose inhabitants can barely manage to survive on meagre incomes, let alone think of pursuing loftier ambitions, Arjun, with his aspirations and sheer grit to rise above his squalid surroundings, becomes simultaneously the focus of his neighbours' admiration and jealousy. The sneers of Arjun's college-mates, when he appears in his only shirt drenched in colour, the hostility of the people in his own colony, and the attempt on his life by unknown assailant, mark insecurity and anguish of refugee living. Standing at the crossroads of determination and dilemma, action and passivity, Arjun unlike his mythical namesake, cannot hope for a wise and diplomatic Lord Krishna to guide him. But the rivals attack first, putting an end to all perplexity, and chaos ensues as Arjun fights blindly wounding many and gets seriously injured himself.
