ABSTRACT

This chapter traces the evolution of India’s National Skills Qualifications Framework in the light of the graduate skills deficit. The chapter emphasizes the need for developing and implementing the National Vocational Qualifications Framework (NVQF) to streamline Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) systems and to enhance the value of TVET by providing training based on occupational standards practiced in several countries across the world. This chapter is a critical assessment of the NSQF in India as well as the various tertiary level programmes of Vocational Education and Training in India.
