ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that collaboration between industries and academia is critical for skills development, education, and training. Apart from preparing graduates for work, the collaboration adds significant value to the organizations. This chapter investigates the scenario of technical and higher education in India, with a primary focus on various forms of industry-academia linkages and their outcomes. The chapter highlights that despite a huge technical and professional education network in the country, the true potential of the industry–academia linkage is still not harnessed significantly. To develop the comprehensive understanding, the chapter assesses the current global status and practices in forging the industry–academia linkages, and understands and analyzes critical factors associated in making industry-academia collaboration successful. The chapter also proposes recommendations to stimulate industry-academia linkages.
