ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with the fact that growth has not resulted in inequality-reducing productive job creation in several countries, including India. The problem of jobless growth is discussed as a long-existing phenomenon arising from India’s population bulge not coinciding with a manufacturing boom. The chapter discusses issues of the rural-urban divide, inequality, sectoral and occupational structure, and the increasing role of technology in light of the new skills market.
