ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the unprecedented changes in the nature and structure of employment, particularly that in the case of women. It highlights the growing inequalities in the labour market in terms of unequal opportunities for employment and examines the trends in labour-force participation rates of population across their different socio-religious groups. The gender and caste hierarchies in labour-force participation rates are also analyzed to draw meaningful insights. The chapter demands policy interventions to check the high incidence of underemployment among marginalized groups when compared to others.
