ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the problem of graduate employability being multidimensional in nature, explained by both supply and demand side effects and factors that are external as well as internal to the higher-education sector. This is an empirical chapter based on primary data highlighting that graduate employability in India is a challenge possibly more complex than in other nations, as explained by three kinds of mismatches with the employer community. The comparative perspectives of the employers and new employees in terms of understanding finer nuances of employability skill gaps and the future expectations form the major part of this chapter. The chapter further identifies the personal, household, and educational factors that may determine graduate employability.
