ABSTRACT

Josef A. Mestenhauser was far ahead of his time in his thinking and writing on intercultural competence. What do some of his publications say about intercultural competence, and what are the implications for continued research and work on intercultural competence even today? Deardorff highlights some of his key writings as they pertain to intercultural competence, brings in some of the current work on this construct, proposes an updated framework on intercultural competence, and then explores implications for current practice as well as future research.
