ABSTRACT

Sexuality has always been a significant subject for theater, regardless of historical period or geography. Plays that span the globe and go back millennia have hinged on sex, desire, gender and power. In most cases, sex is discussed but not depicted onstage; but in cases where it is staged, the audience witnesses something rehearsed and choreographed. What these audiences are seeing, why they are seeing it and how it has been staged are acts of dramaturgy.
