ABSTRACT

The author observes in her chapter on Goa that the state has witnessed regular oscillation of power between the Congress and the BJP in the assembly elections. However, in the Lok Sabha elections, the seats have generally been shared between the two national parties. The 2019 Lok Sabha election once again restored the old power equation in Goa with North Goa seat won by the BJP and South Goa by the Congress. More than the leadership factor, mining issues determined the people’s choice of party. If in the 2014 Lok Sabha election the issue of mining led to the victory of the BJP in South Goa region, in the 2019 election the same issue resulted in its defeat.
