ABSTRACT

This chapter takes an in-depth look at the interviews and recent reflections as representing 12 intellectual journeys that eventually led to an engagement with Gibson's Ecological Approach to psychology by major actors whose work contributed to the consolidation and expansion of Ecological Psychology. The first focus is on how and why James Gibson and Eleanor Gibson became “attractor points,” creating a platform and a place for others to join in their agenda. Then lineages and patterns are highlighted in the scientific careers of the interviewees, seeking what made them “prepared minds” for the Ecological Approach, how they got in contact with it, and why this contact became a formative experience. Next, Ecological Psychology is depicted as a scientific movement, and the trajectories of research of the twelve individuals are highlighted. Issues regarding the label “Ecological Psychology” are taken up, and, in conclusion, the questions: what is Ecological Psychology and whose approach is it?
