ABSTRACT
Coach development in New Zealand Rugby Union is a “hot topic” (Hepburn, 2021a; 2021b; New Zealand Herald, 2023). The primary aim of this chapter is to provide insight into coach development in Rugby Union in New Zealand. To achieve this aim, it is also necessary to understand the dynamic and contestable space that surrounds coach development in New Zealand in general. A secondary aim is to discuss the “reimagining” of coach development in New Zealand and pose questions that could further stimulate discussion around the future of New Zealand Rugby Union coach development pathways/initiatives, which aim to enhance the learning and development of coaches.
