ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces different methods of match analyses in tennis. Discussing pros and cons as well as application possibilities, this chapter aims to outline a development on match observation and systematic analyses in (professional) tennis over time, culminating in today’s gold standard of technology-based match observation, i.e., the Hawk-Eye. Based on this, the feasibility of match analyses will be reviewed in accordance with different levels of performance and, further in this context, current tennis-specific findings are presented in a discussing manner; exemplary data of the rally length, an extended game opening as well as serve patterns and stroke placement will particularly be taken into account. Finally, practice guidelines are derived based on match analyses in tennis.
