ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the current developments in game analyses in indoor volleyball and beach volleyball. Game analysis is utilized in volleyball for the systematic chronicling of qualitative and quantitative characteristics of individual players or a team to improve game tactics and training methods, going forward. While the clubs, which play in the highest leagues in indoor volleyball, typically use a computer-/video-based software tool, the use of another widely applied method of game observation, in both indoor and beach volleyball, is considered in the current chapter – i.e., the written/graphical manual game observation (paper-pencil method). Overall, care must be taken to ensure that any inputs transmitted to coaches and players does not lead to an information overload; instead, it must serve to prioritize key insights for the analysis of a game.
