ABSTRACT

This essay argues on the time-level of conjunctures and defends the hypothesis that contemporary capitalism underlies a process of refeudalization. This process of refeudalization takes place within the capitalist world-systems, but with different and particular characteristics in Latin America. Refeudalization, of course, does not mean a regress to historical feudalism. Instead, it means a return of elements, discourses, and positions that show a high analogy to feudal elements but unfold their effectiveness in the current capitalist world system. This essay explores the global dynamic of refeudalization in Latin America in the following seven dimensions: social structure, economy, values, space, political field, identities, and political rationalities.
