ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the process of relocation and resettlement of the Indigenous families affected by the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Power Plant, who were compulsorily displaced from the area that was destined to be the reservoir of the plant. We analyze the mobilizations of the Xipaya and Kuruaya peoples, who are experiencing a process of reconstruction of their ethnic identities in the city, their strategies and political responses to influence or affect the decision-making process of the relocation and resettlement of the affected population. Field research developed since 2015 is used, with interviews with Indigenous leaders, direct follow-up of actions and documentary research.
