ABSTRACT
This chapter offers a brief overview of the main theoretical coordinates of descriptive approaches to the study of translation, also known as Descriptive Translation Studies (DTS). For this purpose, it focuses on selected key concepts – such as assumed translation, pseudotranslation, indirect translation, semiotic transfer, equivalence, untranslatability, translational norms and laws; it addresses how descriptive research on translation patterns has diversified into different approaches to tackle specific interests and objects; and it also considers a selection of critical issues regarding DTS.
