ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to provide an overview of the position of female communication practitioners in Latin America. Through a quantitative analysis based on data from the Latin American Communication Monitor 2020–2021 (LCM), the following topics will be addressed: the glass ceiling, female leadership, and the position of women in their companies. The analysis found “external factors”, which refer to the causes that generate the glass ceiling, external to women’s own decisions, yet determined by the organisational and professional environments; and “internal factors”, related to the causes that the communication professionals understand as responsibilities of female practitioners themselves.
