ABSTRACT

Global ageing is a challenge from macrosocial perspective, for governments and international organisations, and from a microsocial point of view for the communities and groups in which this process is taking place. Long-lived persons are the carriers of many timeless values and norms which helped them survive through different historical turbulences, and which are invaluable in the education of younger generations. Old ages may become a happy stage in life. The best is to stay in the place, the environment and the ecosystem where one was grown. The implementation of such a model into social life would allow to reach the state of satisfactory old age. Every human being – wherever he or she lives on earth – should be given the opportunity to live a long, healthy and satisfactory life. Activities people engage in and decision people take today may determine the course of many years ahead, while the art of compromise will be the most frequently used tool to ensure quiet and safe senior existence.
