ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book introduces the professional knowledge and skills required by teachers of psychology, including general principles of effective teaching. It recommends teacher consider joining a professional subject association such as the Association for the Teaching of Psychology (ATP) that is very active in supporting psychology teachers with high quality professional development. When they join the ATP, they become part of a highly respected national and international community of psychology teachers with opportunities to network and collaborate. The British Psychological Society promotes excellence in all aspects of psychology. Their Education and Training Board wants students, academics and practitioners to have access to the highest quality education and training resources and therefore work closely with the ATP in delivering teacher toolkits to support teachers teaching.
