ABSTRACT

Research Methods are the foundation of psychology. A firm understanding of research methods is essential for success in any psychology qualification. However, students often do not appreciate the worth of research methods and have a prejudice towards it, thinking it dull and uninteresting. This is especially true of the mathematical and statistical components of psychology qualifications. Many students (and teachers!) have a negative cognitive bias towards maths. The role of the teacher is to counter this bias and make research methods and statistics interesting and even fun.

This chapter will give you a firm understanding of how to deliver experimental methods, non-experimental methods and inferential statistics in an active and interesting way and an appreciation of common misconceptions and how to address them.
