ABSTRACT

Children are not born with a manual, and many families find they are learning how to respond to their children at each developmental stage as they grow together. There is a wealth of evidence that demonstrates the important influence that parents and the home learning environment have on children in their early years, with some research indicating that parents are the single most important factor that has a positive impact on children’s future achievement. Early childhood educators will want to work in partnership with parents with regard to supporting their child to develop self-regulation at home. Offering parents ideas of how to support their children at home relies on our having built a successful and authentic relationship with them in the first place. Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy and is a parenting strategy which reminds us how to interact with children in a way that helps them to feel safe and secure and build positive attachments.
