ABSTRACT

114In its simplest terms, Organisational Development (OD) recognises the organisation as a human system. Later in this book, we will discuss in detail what OD seeks to deliver. Here we need to know that it exists as a discipline to identify systemic issues and solutions that impact the ability to maximise human potential to the best advantage. At Mersey Care, we describe OD as Organisational Effectiveness (OE). This is because at Mersey Care we expect OD to take a strategic, proactive approach that underpins a culture of prevention, continuous improvement, high performance and transformation, plainly speaking, making it more effective – hence the term OE. Equally and critically, where this desired culture does not exist, OE is often associated with providing remedial intervention and restorative approaches to support mitigation of manifesting risk.
