ABSTRACT

Food well-being (FWB) focuses on the positive role of food in an individual’s overall well-being. This chapter develops a conceptual framework for connecting FWB with luxury food experiences productively. It begins by outlining the key characteristics of the luxury food experience as identified in previous studies and literature. It then looks at current trends in the industry that reflect the kinds of desires associated with the consumer demographics known as millennials and Generation Z (Gen Z). With the experiential pleasure of food (EPF) as a guide, this chapter examines the connections luxury food experiences with FWB. Luxury food innovation can support well-being and sustainability by linking luxury food experiences to FWB through EPF. Luxury experiential food offerings that are healthy, creative, and sustainably integrate the savoring of food over time, promoting enduring well-being. This framework highlights how luxury food experiences can create positive relationships with food through an interplay of pleasure, health, and well-being—for example, enhancing individual and societal FWB through domains such as food socialization. Luxury food experiences can also help consumers advance along the FWB continuum through core areas, through the automatic and deliberative influences of food consumption, and goals and motivations.
