ABSTRACT

The introductory chapter to this edited collection sets the scene by providing some context for the second edition. This includes a brief review of events since the first edition and how we approached producing the second. The chapter then addresses the challenges set out in the first edition of the book – the definitional inexactness in relation to rape, the use of identifying labels, the importance of an intersectional approach, and the complexity of interrelated roles and agencies implicated in the crime of rape. Finally, we provide an overview of the contents of the collection.
