ABSTRACT

Social media is a new and a dominating means of communication that helps users to communicate with each other through email, images, pictures and music. With Covid-induced disruption, social media could play a key role as a medium for dialogue for health providers, physicians, consultants and health agencies to promote more informed decision making between populations and individuals relevant to health or care. The purpose of the research is to understand how social media is used for collaboration and knowledge sharing of health information and find challenges faced during usage of social media for collaboration and knowledge sharing. The paper is conceptual and is based on literature review. Findings of the study are: the collaboration challenges are its misuse, a large amount of potentially hazardous misinformation, increased pandemic concerns, tendency of doctors to maintain the one-way relationships and confusion in terms of ethical online practices. It also concludes that social media can be effective in this context by instilling health information support, informational support, emotional support, esteem support and network support.
