ABSTRACT

Knowledge sharing (KS), organisational commitment (OC) and job satisfaction (JS) have become the essential drivers for attaining organisational success in the current knowledge era. This chapter aims to bring the three aforementioned key elements together and develop a theoretical framework. By taking a distinct approach from previous studies, the framework presented in this chapter proposes knowledge sharing as a potential mediator in linking job satisfaction and organisational commitment. This is an important contribution to the body of knowledge as such a link has been largely unexplored in previous literature. The proposed framework is built upon well-established Blau’s Social Exchange theory and Meyer and Allen’s Three-Components Model of organisational commitment. Essentially, the framework postulates that job satisfaction may encourage knowledge-sharing behaviour among employees, and subsequently fostering their organisational commitment.
