ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the collaborative process undertaken to develop the script and to record the radio play in the format of a podcast. It describes the perspectives and reactions of listeners and their experiences of engaging with restorative justice (RJ) through a radio play. Through meaningful collaboration and educational goals embedded in the story, the radio play achieved the objectives. Vancouver Association for Restorative Justice (VARJ) is a grassroots organisation promoting the concept and the use of RJ. The chapter also discusses how community organisations can collaborate with artists to develop a significant and impactful piece of art that furthers important conversations in the community. On a rainy Vancouver evening, board members of VARJ met to discuss how to develop a project that would help fulfil our organisational mandate of furthering public understanding of restorative justice. The chapter focuses on literature dealing with arts for social change, popular education, and the history of the radio play as an educational tool.
