ABSTRACT

Hyper-listening revolves around listening as a conscious act to compassionately and holistically engage with the self and to meditate on the inner process of vibrating, more in a metaphorical and mindful sense than corporeally. The workshops aim to mobilise the idea of hyper-listening and co-listening practiced both as a personal development and community art practice in collaboration with other participants. The acoustic architecture of a city is a flux of sonic textures, signals, functional and navigational sounds, language, and sonified human-machine assemblages, subject to constant change over time. Hyper-listening and co-listening are concepts and experimental forms of listening that operate as a set of exercises and collaborative acts intending to encourage listening without judgement. The sense of subjectivity focuses on memory and reflections that arise from situated listening, connecting with each other by nurturing an acoustic solidarity. Going inwards through listening to self builds the capacity for engaging outwardly.
