ABSTRACT

This chapter concerns the niche area of podcasting in relation to the Roma community's cultural heritage. The Yellow Couch Convos Roma podcast is freely available online, and was a one-year research project to create, curate, and disseminate Roma cultural heritage episodes in conversation with influential grassroots and heritage sector individuals, and institutions. The podcast series not only addresses a gap in Roma and sonic studies but honours storytelling and oral history traditions using contemporary technologies. The podcast portrayed a heterogenous Roma identity to tell stories and share that identity. The Council of Europe states that the archive has as a main focus to offer counternarratives and to illustrate the contribution of Roma to European cultural history. European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture has a unique and single mandate as the first transnational, European-level organisation for the recognition of Roma arts and culture.
