ABSTRACT

Programming multiple buildings in a community setting is a unique opportunity, greatly enhanced when that community is a university that includes a School of Architecture. At the Catholic University of America the authors led a class of architecture students through an analysis of the programs of three buildings under construction according to the principles and categories of the WELL Building Standard. They then provided opportunities for the students to interact with the design teams and to provide input based on their research. With the observation that health is manifest at the scales of individual, building and community, the students were provided the opportunity to approach programming from a unique perspective.
