ABSTRACT

Children may be more sensitive and alert to environmental cues than most adults. The author reports on her research using sketches and interviews of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and concludes that our design sense is enhanced through the power of empathy. By this she means that we should try to join in the experience of the users to better appreciate the impacts of their surroundings. Although her research was limited to children with ASD her conclusions, she argues, are applicable to all users.
