ABSTRACT

An homage to J.B. Jackson, previously published in Testing Ground and the Journal of Civic Architecture (JoCA), this chapter interweaves short passages from Jackson’s classic essay ‘The Stranger’s Path’ with a personal narrative of following the stranger’s path in London across London Bridge and into the Borough High Street, encountering a rich history of bawdy London life from Chaucer to Dickens to the present day. Reference is also made to Spokane, Washington in the 1980s in an intimate and emotional memoir.
