ABSTRACT
Many things in the world have come to be seen as inevitable: population growth, urbanization, economic liberalism. This short essay asks that these be considered, rather, as matters for planning and policy. A prosperity politics is proposed that builds upon hope and idealism for the creation of great places, sustainability, and well-being instead of a sense of the future’s destiny as already having been written.
