ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the transformation of the Place de la République in Paris by TVK, Martha Schwartz, and Areal. A combination of a careful grading strategy and traffic planning, the square has become more accessible and more occupied. The Place is also an important site of democratic process, and thus this essay shows the relation between landscape architecture and freedom of speech and assembly in public space.
