ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we explore how clinical legal education (CLE), and especially the projects focused on migration and asylum law, present a relevant way to engage students in a meaningful and effective learning process that adopts a social justice focus. The similar experiences and necessities in this specific area shared in the European Mediterranean context, brought together the work of three legal clinics, two in Turin (Italy) and one in Valencia (Spain). In this setting, this contribution starts with reflections on the importance of CLE, specifically in the field of migration and asylum law. The chapter then moves on to emphasize key elements that we believe are most valuable for effective learning and teaching in the field of asylum and migration. Finally, we draw conclusions about the importance that CLE has in the training of students to promote the values of democracy and human rights.
