ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the definition, the setting and the basic principles of Psychotherapeutic Playback Theater. It discusses its roots in Playback Theater, Improvisation, Psychodrama, Drama Therapy, Psychoanalytic, Foulkesian as well as Bionian Group Analytic thought. It defines its basic components – the therapy group, the conductor, the theatrical response & the playing space – and discusses them in terms of dramatic reality, transitional space, Jungian archetypes, containing the tripartite matrix of resonance, intersubjectivity and the use of images and aesthetics.
