ABSTRACT

This chapter starts with a justification of why post-editing MT has become more prevalent in recent years. The common practice of post-editing is then introduced, with demonstrations of post-editing guidelines at different levels and with different organizations. The role of source text in post-editing is explored in relation to the increase of translation productivity. Data from a recent experiment of post-editing MT texts with and without source text between English and Chinese will be analyzed in detail to show the impact of the source text on the time and quality of post-editing. Suggestions are provided to facilitate post-editing in a productive manner.
