ABSTRACT

The age-old “index card scenario” training method is the standard for instruction in many study and training fields. It occupies space in our training programs because those who prepare the curriculum see it as an established norm. One goal of an effective behavioral intervention team is to educate the campus community on the concept of “see something – say something.” The goal of this type of training is to understand the classroom management to threat assessment continuum. Explaining the first-hand experience with the traditional approach in entry-level law enforcement training concerning interactions with dangerous or emotionally disturbed individuals, Sargent conveyed that this type of training relies heavily on stale role-playing scenarios acted out by peers or instructors. While the cine-VR experiences achieved their desired effect with their primary audience, other emergency room staff members also found the experiences useful for separate training.
