ABSTRACT

This chapter is for media professionals new to shooting in real medical environments and might be a useful reading for medical professionals to share with incoming production crews before the actual work begins. To those production crews new to the hospital setting, it offers critical points of consideration. Medical cinematic virtual reality (cine-VR) projects tend to fall into two categories with unique considerations: live capture and staged capture. Cine-VR production in a healthcare environment is unlike any other shooting scenario. Often on shoots, the production needs are the top priority. In a medical setting, the cine-VR production is secondary – often tertiary to the patients' and medical staffs' needs. Success depends on the production team's understanding of this dynamic. Medical professionals pride themselves on proper processes and procedures, and so too should the cine-VR team.
