ABSTRACT

The main aim of this chapter is to theorize transformative educational technology as a practical as well as a theoretical venture that is distributed across people, tools, and their organization. In elaborating our main contribution, we will refer to the so-called Meso level as the organizational layer where transformative educational technology should be located: it is in the Meso level that the different stakeholders can profitably handle the variety of options brought about by digital technologies. We will expand our theoretical proposal by referring to what happened to the education system in the time of Covid-19 as a case in point. We will argue that Covid-19 showed that educational transformation(s) are tightly related to what we call the expansion of the Meso level and in doing so we will be able to spell out what transformative educational technology may represent.
