ABSTRACT
One Breath Poem: Message for a Revolution is a telematic call and response project made during the uprisings against police brutality and systemic racism in the summer of 2020. Participants who call-in to this project express a poem or poetic phrase to share their experiences with the limitation of speaking in just one unit of life—a single exhale. This edition of LabSynthE’s ongoing One Breath Poem project is a work of public art, open to anyone with the call-in phone number. It is both a container for expressions of one breath poems, and a point of departure for a creative writing workshop led by LabSynthE members burrough, Starnaman, Ferreira, Haborak, and O’Neill. This chapter will discuss the project in its technical, historical, and social dimensions. A selection of poems that were written and left as voice messages during the workshop are included.
