ABSTRACT

In Denmark, the interchange between COVID-19-related lockdowns and a somewhat normal life in society has to a large degree been mirrored in the prisons. Exceptions from general legislation and practices have been implemented via executive orders which were legally based on the Law on Epidemic Diseases. During 2020 and the beginning of 2021, the intensity of the restrictions in society and the prisons has been “turned up and down” several times. Until April 2021, no COVID-19-related deaths of prisoners or prison staff members have been reported.
