ABSTRACT

This study analyses the impact of the spread of a new coronavirus infection on the law enforcement system in Russia. First of all, our focus is on the prison system. Today, we are seeing changes in some types of crimes committed. There is also a noticeable increase in the use of information technology by courts and prisons, allowing suspects, accused and sentenced persons to exercise their rights. At the same time, despite the scale of the measures taken, long-term trends persist, characterising the level and structure of crime in the country, as well as the practice of applying and executing criminal sanctions and measures.
