ABSTRACT

It is the Public Health Agency in Sweden that has the authority to adopt recommendations and place restrictions on citizens during a pandemic. With the spread of COVID-19 in Sweden, the Swedish Prison and Probation Service (SPPS), along with all other government agencies in Sweden, prepared for and implemented major changes in day-to-day operations, according to the recommendations from the Public Health Agency in Sweden. Due to fast decision-making and a number of actions taken, the SPPS has managed to keep the spread of infection under control. So far, there have been no deaths and only a very few cases in need of hospital care among inmates.
