ABSTRACT

With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in Switzerland in February 2020, preparations were made in custodial institutions to avoid the spread of the pandemic within prisons. This posed a challenge for these institutions, as the instructions regarding social distancing in particular were difficult to implement in closed prisons. As part of a study, the prevention measures with regard to the COVID-19 pandemic were surveyed in 26 custodial institutions. Emphasis is placed here on creating space in order to be able to set up quarantine areas and at the same time to be able to guarantee the daily schedule as far as possible.
